I'll do the day b of my two split new program. Day A was good. I have a light muscle soreness from last workout and it just tells me that I did something right.
I skipped the workout (but played 18 holes instead of 9).
Todays gym:
I'll try a new workout for gym. It's a 2 day split by Steve. I might gain some mass, but I'll take the risk:-) Old men don't grow big easy so " no worries".
That will be watching BJJ on dvd and trying to develop a game for over 55 year olds in BJJ.
Also I need a game plan that keeps me fit for golf during gold season - no injuries.
I need to make a workout program for BJJ offseason. Or can I have an on-season in golf and BJJ at the same time?
No... it's too much. But I don't want to loose much of my physical conditition during golf season so something has to be done.
Yoga - is good for golf and BJJ.
Strength training - maybe more crossfit than gym?
Some heavy bag training (tabata? to keep some anaerobic ability)
And rolling or drilling 2 - 3 times per week?
I play golf 3 - 4 rounds per week and practise 2 times?
Today I played my first full round of golf this "summer". And after the round I did my gym workout day A.
I can feel the workout in my muscles - little washed out, but not totally over done - have to wait until tommorrow to know how hard it was:-)
Today is a BJJ class.
For my blog it might be a correct time to change something. I've been writing about BJJ a lot, because it has been the main focus of studing in last winter. Now I need to get in to golf more. Golf is my number one event. BJJ is for keeping in physical conditition.
I've started a bjj training blog in finnish - so it's going to be active during summer.
I' have an old blog about golf - so I'll be writing about golf there.
So what to do about this blog? Let it rest until autumn? Or write about physical training like gym and other exercises and martial arts during summer? Maybe it should be xogym?
Today is almost a recovery day - only a short 60 min drilling session.
Busy at work and no golf until Thursday. But I feel that the wind is changing. Golf season has started and I've got my locker at our club and our classic scramble team event is next Saturday - an opening competition of a near by golf course. Very educative drilling session with some free roll. Could not impliment skills in to rolling. Conclution is that I need more drilling. Lot more!
After work I have an hours drilling session with Mikko to learn armbar, triangle and sweep from guard and some counters. And after that it's gym day B.
Asked an offer for a new Honda Looks like they don't want to sell me a Honda NC700S ABS. Not even an offer!
Very good experience with drilling and gym was the cherry on the top.
One recovery day is not enough. (Today is BJJ) instead of bjj I went to golf course and played nine holes . (I might be get back from Helsinki to BJJ class on Sunday - or not. So today training and weekend recovery. If I can get some stretching done, it would be very good!
Link in the image is to Youtube for a counter for a common counter ( stack) for an armbar:-) Well, first I need to learn to do the armbar and that will be drill on Monday and Tuesday - with some counters.
I've been putting of golf and I cancelled tomorrows competition. I'm not prepared well enough to play in rain at +10C temperature 18 holes. Today is nice weather so I'll do some chipping.
Main even today is BJJ class.
Positive thought of the day is that I'm a member (head coach) of Finnish team at BMX world championships in Birmingham 24 -27 of May, 2012. Lifts a smile on my face just thinking about it.
I am happy that some of bjj players are willing to drill techniques with me. I think that drilling, repeating techniques, is key element it martial arts. Something like don't do 1000 techniques once, but do one technique 1000 times. Well, 10 times or 20 and maybe 3 techniques, but point is that it's not so much learning as repeating.
First golf competition is on Thursday and I have not made a single full speed swing with any club. Today I'll take a pitcher and a 7 iron with me to the range and see what happens. Preparation for this golf season has been more BJJ than golf:-) In golf I tend to be to relaxed or not pushing it. (And when I add a little juice I ruin my swing.) In Bjj I tend to be too tensed - not relaxed enough. (And when I add some effort I will get good positions, but it's ruffing, not BJJ.) There are two very interesting concepts: sensibility and commitment.
With sensibility I mean that you have to feel what you are doing and also feel the environment - golf club or your partneres movements.
With commitment comes determination. You have to trust your game and play it as you see it. If you are going for the flag - go for it. Don't think about bunkers. If you are going for submission, go for it. Do all the moves and see what happens:-)
Yesterdays combination 45 minutes of technical drilling and basic gym workout worked fine. Technical drilling is not as fluent as I would like it to be - it's still more like trying to recall the techniques than repeating them, but that's what drilling is about.
Today morning start at golf course by building a new tee box and a path to it. Afternoon is standard BJJ class. Fine day - short work at golf club, made some crisp bread and nice session in BJJ class - rode my Kawa:-) and Finland won it's mats in ice hockey. Tomorrow is a recovery day.
I'll do 45 minutes of techical drills and after that my normal gym session day A.
I should get back to bjj consepts. At the moment I don't really have a plan for rolling. Most of my time goes to survival - escape and escape again - tap - and escape:-)
Some times a have a feeling that it takes a pit longer for my partners to tap me out, but they are probably taking is a little lighter. I know I am learning. Problem is that others a getting stronger too:-)
I'll jog home from work. It's about 6 km and after recovering from that I'll do my gym program day B.
I hoped to do a BJJ drill session, but timetable makes it too complicated. (Or it's my Kawasaki that is still in the repair shop, but I might get it today...)
Got an invitation to work at our golf club on Saturday morning to build a new tee box - so bjj is out and shovelling dirt is in. Kawasaki is at the repair shop again and today is a busy day at work - it feel like spring - a hazzel.
After calculation different option for transportation I'll be able to go to BJJ class - and might even get home after it.
I'll visit "tivoli" - a kind of circus in the morning and go to gym in the afternoon.
I am worried about my Kawasaki. It just spills out fuel and no one seems to know how to fix it. (First try cost me 300 euros but with out actually fixing the problem.)
